Concord Pacific is an entirely new neighbourhood. It is built on lands used by Expo 86, which in turn were built on former railyards. Like Concord, Vancouver often seems surreal. It has too many glass condo towers floating above the water, above gap-toothed streets. Douglas Coupland once said about his town, "We live, not so much in a city but in a dream of a city." Maybe he was right; Vancouver is a city without a history. It has no sense of self, but on the other hand, it has no chains to prevent it from going where no other city has gone before.
