Gastown is where you can find the Downtown Eastside made up for tourists. It is usually tacky and tiring, with too many Canadian flags and Mountie moose t-shirts and not enough hangouts and bookstores. One can only stand enough Water Street before one must escape and take a short dose of reality a block or two away.
