I noticed in in Parc Guell, yes, but not in El Raval. Did you get a good look at who the protestors are? If experience is anything to go by, the indigenous immigrant population often keeps quiet while the few resident artists tend to be most vocal, which is ironic because they are unwittingly the pioneer stormtroopers of gentrification.

One more reason I find the gentrification debate tricky.

Excellent photos! I just got back yesterday from spending nearly a month in an apartment off of Rambla de Raval -nice to know you appreciated it as much as I did!

Did you catch any anti-gentrification demos? I saw two, and in various areas of El Raval, you'll find entire buildings' balconies covered in banners, protesting the opening of discotecas and the new laws that prevent people from continuing to afford to live in the city centre, adding to the housing crisis. And if you made it up to Parc Guell, I'm sure you caught the anarchist squat and the anti-tourist graffiti that seemed to taunt me for my entire stay there.

It's a touchy issue, and made me feel ambivalent about being a tourist there, but alas, Barcelona stole my heart and for anyone that's ever been there, for obvious reasons.
