Mary Soderstrom is a Montreal writer. Her many nonfiction books include The Walkable City: Haussmann’s Boulevards to Jane Jacobs Streets and Green City: People, Nature and Places, which explores the relationship between nature and cities. Her next book, Making Waves: The Portuguese Adventure, which tells the story of Portugal’s influence on world history, is forthcoming in 2010.
Her fiction includes The Truth Is, a collection of fourteen stories set in Montreal’s Outremont and Mile End neighbourhoods. She has also written a novel, The Violets of Usambara, set in Montreal and East Africa.
Mary was born in Walla Walla, Washington and studied at the University of California at Berkeley in the late 1960s. She has lived in Montreal since 1968, and blogs at Recreating Eden.
